Who’s Watching You?

I have learnt a lot over the past few years about accountability and the effect that being accountable to another person (or persons) has on my ability to get things done.

Knowing that someone else is watching me is a very powerful motivator, and means that I find it easier to focus and complete my tasks.

This is particularly important for marketing your business, because your main role is in delivering your service or products to your clients, so promoting your business can get pushed to the back of your mind, unless you have someone there to check up on your progress.

This is one of the reasons that I set up my Marketing Mastermind Group. Not only will group members learn how to market their businesses and bring in hoards of the clients they really want, but they will also have a Marketing Buddy to provide accountability and support each month.

This week’s tip: engage someone to watch your back

Knowing that you need to feel accountable to someone else is not enough to make most entrepreneurs take action.

The best way to harness the power of the watcher is to actually get one, and here’s how:

  • Look within your circle of business peers for someone that you know well and trust
  • They should be in a different business to you, or working with a different market, so that you are not in competition with each other.
  • Set up a regular schedule of meetings and/or phone calls to keep track of progress and discuss ideas.
  • Actually keep to the schedule. You might want to introduce some forfeits to stop you missing your meetings or calls.
  • Have a structure for your discussions to keep you on track.Be open and honest with each other.

If you’re struggling, say so – your buddy will be able to offer a different perspective, and maybe a solution or two.

Be appreciative of your buddy. You’re both giving up valuable business time to help each other out, and that should not be taken for granted.

If you can stick to this list, your relationship will prosper!

Alternatively, you can join my Marketing Mastermind Group – you’ll learn how to promote your business to bring you the clients you really want AND you’ll get a built in Mastermind Buddy, and all of the above will be organised for you.
