Are you making GOOD or BAD business mistakes?

posted by Alicia in Social Media & Online Marketing

We all know what it’s like to upset someone…

Maybe we said the wrong thing. Perhaps we forgot a special day that was important to them.

It wasn’t deliberate, we didn’t realise that we’d created a problem or hurt them.

It was a mistake.

When making mistakes is good

Running your own business means making mistakes too. Lots of them.

One slip or wrong turn usually isn’t enough to bring your entire world crashing down.

But it does sting. You might beat yourself up a little for being a fool and it’s tough to get back up again.

Which is exactly what you have to do…

Recognise that you’ve made a mistake, let it go and keep pushing ahead. Learning from them and trying again, doing it differently, pouring all of your experience into the next attempt so that you don’t screw it up this time.

Mistakes make you stronger. Helps you avoid or survive the knocks that come further down the road.

But not all mistakes are good…

Sometimes we are unaware that the decisions we make are poor ones because there’s no one there to explain it to us.

Like, how to find your perfect clients or how to create a consistent income for your business.

You keep plugging away, thinking that what you’re doing will help and it’s only after months, weeks or sometimes years that you finally realise that something isn’t working. This isn’t how it’s supposed to be. It’s not why you chose to start your own business doing what you love…

When we start off on our entrepreneurial journey we’re not taught how to run a successful business. And, as we develop our skills to serve others, we think the marketing and selling will simply fall into place…

After all, how hard can it be? You’re great at what you do, you love your work, serve others from the heart. And, there are plenty of role models around earning 6 figures, celebrating 5 figure months and launches.

But the sales don’t come.

And, it’s a painful lesson because it means that there are not enough enquiries, your bottom line limps along barely there, the business success you crave remains a dream that feels harder to reach than ever. And, you wonder if the life freedom you hoped for was just a fantasy – maybe it doesn’t exist after all?

Another mistake I see is this…

Thinking that you’re doing the right things to attract new clients – using social media, paying for an expensive website re-design, blogging regularly. When in fact, you’re wasting time.

You’re in the right ballpark but playing a different game. One that leads to occasional sales and some interest but not enough to create the impact you should be.

I teach my clients the right actions. How to take them, why they are important and what to focus on that will help them reach the business success they strive so hard for. So that they don’t have to strive so hard forever.

How do you know what’s right and what isn’t?

  • Get help!
  • Join groups, take training, hire a coach
  • Learn, study, experiment. Start with this
  • Review your actions. Is this working? If it isn’t find out why. If it is, keep on doing it!

All of this sounds simple – you probably know this already but it’s all in the DOING.

Imagine how great it would feel to know that the actions you’re taking in your business are leading you in the direction of your goals.

How exciting when new enquiries come in and you see your bottom line increase.

How safe you would feel knowing that your time isn’t being wasted and you’re really doing what you love.

That you’re no longer worrying about where your next gig will come from.

This IS all possible when you have the knowledge and support to help you.

What about you?

Have you made what you thought was a big mistake in your business and survived it? What happened and how did you overcome it?
