Don’t Let Your Offline Marketing Material Collect Dust Bunnies (do this instead)
posted by Alicia in Social Media & Online Marketing
Have you heard of Slideshare?
It’s a website where you can upload slide presentations to share around the web.
For FREE!
I’ve heard it called the ‘YouTube of Powerpoint’. Yep, even slide presentations have a space on the web created just for them.
What’s really cool about Slideshare is that it’s not just for slide presentations. You can upload any document that would normally be used in your offline marketing, such as portfolios, brochures, white papers and articles too.
It works with Powerpoint, Keynote, PDFs, Word docs, Open Office, iWorks. You can even add YouTube videos and sync audio over your slides.
Why upload your docs to Slideshare?
Because sharing your knowledge and expertise is fundamental to marketing yourself online. Sometimes it’s necessary to share some free information to position yourself as an expert in your area.
And what’s the use of having your expertise sitting in a file gathering dust bunnies when it can be out there serving others and tooting your horn at the same time?
Uploading is easy. Once done, you can start sharing your offline materials with the world…
- It integrates with Facebook and LinkedIn (use the app to instantly add some extra pizazz to your LinkedIn profile)
- Display your presentation on your website
- Easily share on social networks, via email and add to websites or blogs
- Track views + analytics
Must dos to get the most from Slideshare…
To get the most from Slideshare, there are some actions you absolutely must do…
- Choose your presentation title carefully and include keywords so your prez can easily be found in search
- Write a compelling description to make your prez so irresistible viewing can’t help but click
- Add keyword tags, again this helps you get found in search
- Add your full website url at the top of your description to direct people back to your website
- Add your contact details at the end of your presentation slides
Why I Use Slideshare
I’m a big fan of Slideshare. A couple of years back, I realised I had so much material that had just been collecting dust so I created presentation into Slideshare all about digital marketing (‘scuse the stats inside – they’re a bit outdated but the content is allll good).
One of my favourite features of Slideshare is that I can track the analytics. And, my presentation has had over 12,500 views! That’s a lotta people to come my way for something that took just a few minutes to action so I can see that uploading it has been worthwhile.
Are you recycling your content?
Stop. Look around your desktop. I bet there are TONS of offline marketing materials that can be put to use.
Do you let your offline marketing materials turn into antiques? Share in the comments below how you recycle your marketing material (whether offline or online).
I challenge you to upload even just one PDF, PowerPoint or Keynote you have to Slideshare and see the difference it makes.
