Getting the Twitter Habit

posted by Alicia in Twitter

To get results with your marketing using social media you need consistency and momentum.

I call it marathon marketing:

It takes time and effort, you get out what you put in but the rewards are SO worth it.

That doesn’t mean it has to take up all of your time.

Take Twitter as an example…

I spend 10 minutes a day connecting with others on Twitter (any more is a bonus), plus about another hour curating and scheduling content to tweet (I read online articles weekly to keep up to date with the latest in my industry – an important part of my professional growth and development).

You already know I’m a Twitter addict but 10 minutes a day is about one hour a week spent building relationships on Twitter. Less time than a face-to-face networking event and I reach considerably more people.

I get lots of questions asking ‘how do I use Twitter and get more followers?‘. The short answer (and very first step) is to make Twitter a habit.

Build it in to your schedule until it becomes as natural as making a phone call.

Take Action!

  • Go to your diary now and schedule 10 minutes Twitter time each day. You can have weekends off :-)
  • If you don’t have a profile, what are you waiting for? Go do it now. I promise you won’t regret it. Read my article 7 Steps to Set Up Your Twitter Account first
  • If you’re not ready to tweet just yet use that time to watch and learn from super users
  • If you’re worried about getting sucked in to Twitter for longer, set a timer so you know when to stop
  • Spend just 20 seconds of that time to say ‘Hi!’:

You’ll be addicted in no time ;-)
