The ONE thing You Need To Do To Get Noticed Online

posted by Alicia in Blogging & Content

get noticed online

This week I learnt that (once again) my blog has been listed as an influential resource – named as a Top 10 UK Marketing Blog by Search Engine Journal. Yay!

I say, once again, because last year I was named one of 50 Top UK Online Marketing Influencers & Bloggers of 2013.

Naturally, I’m thrilled. Not least because there was no admission process, nominations or canvassing for votes required – I’ve been awarded purely on the merit of my work. Plus, I didn’t have to do any additional work. BONUS!

Earning Public Recognition – What Does It Take?

In my previous post about being named a TopRank Influential UK blogger, I explain the 4 main strategies you can apply to help you get recognised for your own business blogging. Putting these ideas in action will help you stand out above everyone else in your area of expertise.

But the strategy that stands out above all others..?

Showing up!

Showing up online is HARD.

It means facing your fears. The voice inside that says;

‘You’re not good enough!’
‘You have nothing interesting to say!’
‘You have nothing notable to offer – it’s already been done!’
‘Who do you think you are? No one is interested in your opinion!’

…and doing it anyway.

It takes dedication – especially when life has other ideas and presents personal challenges and commitments that need your attention.

It takes guts because to stand out requires adding the personality component. This is the only way to forge a personal and authentic connection with the community of people you want to serve. In return, they will respond with loyalty, spreading your message to others who also need to hear it.

And, it means doing so consistently because so many businesses don’t! They may start with the best intentions but it doesn’t take long for the external obstacles I’ve explained above to get in their way.

This is why I recommend (and know from experience) that regular blogging and content marketing requires a planned approach.

The Greatest Reward Of All

All of this means that in time your efforts will be rewarded with wider exposure, free PR opportunities, more customers and advocates. And, the greatest reward of all is knowing that the advice you share is being felt, because when you’re hard-wired to serve that is ultimately why you do what you do.

You CAN do it!

Eternal Gratitude

This is a perfect opportunity to thank you for being here. Reading this right now, leaving comments, sending your emails of gratitude, recommending me to your business friends, sharing my stuff on social media, linking to my blogs, opening my weekly emails and taking action on the advice I share with you. It’s why I do what I do. LOVE.

Over To You

What do you find hardest about blogging consistently? Or is it something that comes really easy for you? Please share your experience in the comments below so that we can all learn from each other.

I’m going through a period of burn-out, I guess you’d say. I feel like I’m not inspired the way I used to be or my recent material is not as good as the older stuff. Perhaps I’m just changing direction and should go with it-even if I do not know where “it” is going! It’s a cause for frustration at times though.

Great post! Yes, I do find it hard to get out there sometimes, especially when I’m feeling a little low. Little by little, I’ve started to come to the realisation that when you do what you love as a business, it will feel like a job sometimes, and that’s normal. You just still have to show up and do the work, even it it feels scary or like torture, cue Taxes (and many other things).

YES, Camila! You are soooo right. Sometimes, we have to approach our work like a job. It can be hard to change the mindset if you’ve worked the 9-5 or corporate job because when you leave that behind to follow your passion ‘job’ becomes a dirty word. :) Thanks for your comment – much appreciated!

    Hi Alicia,
this is a very timely subject for me so I’ll be pinning those 4 main strategies to my vision board.
    Thank you!
